Rats are small brown rodents that will attack Croc when he gets close to one. They can be defeated with a tail-whip or a stomp.
In the Game Boy Color version of the game, rats are yellow with a strange pink dot on their heads. They walk back and forth but will charge at Croc when he enters their line of sight.
